On Friday, 21 January 2022, Blackrock (the world’s largest fund manager) filed a registration statement noting their intention to launch a blockchain focused exchange traded fund (“ETF”).
According to the filing, the ETF will track an index composed of companies involved in the development, innovation utilization of blockchain and crypto technologies. If approved the ETF will use the NYSE FactSet Global Blockchain Technologies Index as its underlying index.
This latest filing by Blackrock wasn’t totally unexpected. Late last year, Blackrock’s CEO Larry Fink told CNBC that he sees “huge opportunities” in the digital currencies space.
Blackrock Fund Advisors is currently estimated to have around $10 trillion in assets under management.
