Ledger Launches Crypto-Linked Debit Card

On 9 December 2021, the hardware wallet company Ledger announced the introduction of a crypto debit card called the ‘Crypto Life Card’ for customers in the U.K., France and Germany in the first quarter of 2022, and for U.S. customers in the second quarter of 2022.

A crypto debit card connects your crypto wallet with the payment processing infrastructure and allows you to use crypto to pay any merchant (typically with fiat) that accepts debit cards.

The announcement was made at Ledger’s Ledger’s biannual Op3n conference. The card is linked to Ledger Live, a desktop and mobile application that enables Ledger users to buy, swap and stake cryptocurrencies.

Cardholders can either convert their crypto into fiat for spending or can open a line of credit from the crypto they hold as collateral and get cash to spend on the card with retailers and online stores. Rates will vary by region but some will have 0%.

Additionally, cardholders can also deposit their wages via Ledger Live and select which percentage of their income they want to convert into BTC and ETH.

Ledger’s ‘Crypto Life Card’ will initially support BTC, ETH, USDT, EURT, USDC, XRP, BXX, BCH and LTC, with more crypto to be added over time.
