Ripple’s senior product manager, Craig DeWitt, has been appointed as Vice-Chair of the U.S. Faster Payments Council.
DeWitt announced that his role will involve “investigating Central Bank Digital Currencies (CBDCs) and the best in class technologies to make them possible”.
The Faster Payments Council is an “industry-led membership organization”, which has links to several major players in the U.S. and international payments space, including Visa, Mastercard, JPMorgan Chase Merchant Services, American Express, and U.S. Bank.
Ripple has been involved in a number of CBDC projects this year. In September, the company announced that Bhutan would be using a private version of the XRP Ledger to pilot a CBDC. Ripple also became a member of the “Digital Pound Foundation” and published a white paper on the future of CBDCs, which outlined a framework for implementing CBDCs and guidance for ensuring global interoperability.
