Spain has announced that starting next month, “influencers” will have to notify the National Securities Market Commission (CNMV) before promoting cryptocurrency products. In addition to this, any ads promoting crypto will have to include an adequate risk warning.
The CNMV will be given the authority to remove cryptocurrency ads and fine the promoter if they are not compliant with the new regulations.
Spain is the first EU country to place restrictions such as this on marketing and advertising cryptocurrency products.
Other countries beginning to regulate crypto advertising?
Singapore has also recently cracked down on crypto advertising. Earlier this week, the government announced that digital asset companies must not advertise to the public. This includes advertising in newspapers, T.V., radio, magazines, or on social media platforms.
What do you think of this approach? Is requiring influencers to notify the Spanish authorities a step too far?
